A work in progress: improving communication

Communication is the key to any and every great relationship, whether it’s with our children, our teachers, our principals, or our District leadership. As your Board member, I have worked every day to make GUSD communications relevant and responsive to family concerns, ensure advance notice for program changes, and prioritize honest and ethical communications around budget, contract negotiations, and other major Board decisions.

Trust is built on a foundation of clearly communicated goals and steps we take to meet them. I ran in 2022 because I believed that our parents and the community had a lack of clarity from the Glendale Unified School District Board, leaving teachers and students caught in the middle.

In order for the Board to help direct the district and each school to meet the stated Board priorities of providing each child a safe and equitable education, I worked hard to make sure sure everyone is back on the same team. Last-minute changes, arguments over settled policy, contentious negotiations and confusing program rollouts do not serve our children, educators, or GUSD community.

As a result of my commitment to building a communicative Board, GUSD has reached agreement on labor contracts in record time, hired a dynamic new Superintendent, and supported our community through wildfires, budget challenges, and more.

I have worked hard during my term to restore the community’s faith in the District through clear, effective, informative, truthful, and accessible information around issues that matter to parents (budget, health and safety, curriculum, childcare, etc.) as well as what is coming down the line.
